Things to Know about Hospital Indemnity Insurance:

  • It is supplementary coverage that pays when you are hospitalized.
  • The benefits are paid directly to you rather than to your healthcare provider.
  • According to Healthcare.gov, The average cost of a 3-day hospital stay is around $30,000.
  •  Waiting periods vary for hospital indemnity insurance. In general, there is a 30-day waiting period before your benefits can be used toward an illness that results in hospital confinement. However, there is generally no waiting period for accidental injuries that require hospitalization.
  • Some policies have optional benefits on hospital, skilled nursing facility care, doctor’s office visit, outpatient surgical procedures, and hospital emergency room visit or ambulance service.
